Emma Van Lare is a first-generation Ghanaian-American actor and writer. Recent credits include a guest star on Law & Order and her Broadway debut understudying the 6x Tony-nominated Ain't No Mo' by Jordan E. Cooper. She made her professional stage debut at California Shakespeare Theater (Cal Shakes) as the lead in the world premiere of Madhuri Shekar’s House of Joy. She can also be seen in the historical fiction short film The Example, available on Amazon, and on YouTube in the fantasy mystery drama web series Fabletown. 

 

Her feature screenplay, Peki House Haunting was a finalist in the 2021 MACRO x The Black List Feature Screenwriter Incubator. That same year, she was an inaugural fellow in the 2021 Free the Arts Shay Fellowship for which she debuted her original solo work, Hello, I Wish I Were Dead, in December 2022. Most recently, her first produced work, See This, a short film she co-wrote and performed in, had its New York premiere at Dances with Films.

 

Emma holds a B.S. in Radio-Television-Film from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.F.A. in Acting from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
